With only two days left until Christmas, the Apronites are on their best behaviour to ensure we stay off Santa’s naughty list. Since the man in red is always watching, we thought we’d gain some bonus points by giving our readers the gift of inspiration. Here are a few of our favourite (stocking-sized) kitchen goods for the food passionate and well-behaved Apronites in your household:
A caffeinated cook is a happy cook. There’s an abundance of tools that come along with a love of tea and coffee (Dana is all about the milk frother, I’m all about the tea infusers) but you can also get some unusual specialty teas and coffees: scout out your local independent coffee shop and indulge. I’m sure your beloved chef will share 😉
I’m personally not a huge fan of kitchen items that only come out for a single purpose – get me a decent knife over a strawberry huller any day. Nonetheless, there are a few things that are so useful that I don’t know what I’d do without them. No kitchen should be without a silicone spatula, nor should any avid baker be without a cake tester. Think outside the box.
Do you have a kitchen thermometer? No? Then get one! Mine is technically a sugar thermometer – nice long stem that keeps your hands away from the heat and it goes up to a high temperature. It is now an absolute staple too – I use it for cooking confectionery, but also for testing the temperature on roast meat and sauces. Worth every penny 🙂
No avid cook will ever complain about getting fancy spices. A good stock of saffron, lavender, and real vanilla pods make the most luxurious foods but are just about fancy enough that I hardly ever buy them. Fill up a chef’s stocking with unusual spices, and enjoy the rich, delicious rewards of a well-stocked spice rack.
So there it is Santa, a few ideas for what to slip into our stockings and reward this good behaviour with. No need to worry about the next two days, we’re saving all the naughty stuff for a Valentine’s Day post. 😉

Being the enthusiastic Instagramer that I am, I love tools that can benefit my food photography on the go… iPhone lenses, cases and tripods are always a WIN in my stocking. I’m a big fan of the olloclip 3-in-1 attachable lens and Kungl for mounting gear (check out http://www.jebbenterprises.com/jebbstuff).
want to know where you get the grapefruit spoons, I have ONE left that is 70 years old, need another one, have become obsessive with this one. cheers wendy
I HATE peeling oranges and, thus, love these orange peelers. So quick! So easy! You’re not left with orange peel under your fingernails and orange stain all over your hands (I’m a spaz).
