Reagan gave us a delicious green smoothie recipe yesterday to boost our energy while our limbs are otherwise occupied. A great base is essential to a great green smoothie but everyone has their own personal shade, what’s yours?
Reagan: Frozen mango, vanilla yogurt, banana, peach mango tofu if you’re adventurous, many handfuls of spinach and OJ. Depending on your blender, the spinach probably won’t blend completely smooth but you wouldn’t know it’s there other than the colour. I’ve found keeping the other ingredients in the yellow end of the spectrum keeps the colour nice and fresh when adding green stuff.
Caitlin: Huuuuuge fan of the green smoothies! Lately my favourite combination is 1-2 leaves of kale, a handful of spinach, frozen mango or berries, a knob of ginger, a bit of lemon juice, and coconut water or just regular water. For a thicker variation throw in half a banana and some almond milk, as well as protein powder. Reagan’s right, you don’t even notice the spinach! The kale might be a bit more of an acquired taste but it’s sooooo good for you.
Jodi: My husband makes an awesome one that my son (who is VERY picky and eats NO greens at all) loves. Here’s his recipe: kale (stems removed), apple juice, celery, banana, lemon. Play around with the amounts to your tastes. Seriously, my kid loves it and he is THE pickiest.
Dana: Years ago Reagan recommended the dessert tofu to me and it changed my family’s smoothies for good. The peach mango one makes the most basic smoothie taste like something straight from the Orange Julius counter. I’m also currently hooked on adding some ground flax, using coconut water, and finishing the blend with some strawberry kefir.
